Bri_,_s& Stratton Power Products Home Generator System
Installation Manual
Ceaeo_byEa_'sCu__e,
Ensure that all gas line shutoff valvesare OPEN and that
adequate fuel pressure is availablewhenever automatic
operation is desired.
INITIAL START-UP (NOLOAD)
Begintesting the system without any electrical loads
connected, as follows:
I. Set theAUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch to OFF.
2. Set the generator's main circuit breaker to itsOFF
(open) position.
3. Install the 15 Amp fuse in the control panel.
4. Set theAUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch to MANUAL.
NOTE:When the Home Generator Systemis started for
the very first time, it will require that air in the gaseousfuel
lines be purged. This maytake afew minutes.
5. Use short starting cycles (15 sec.per min.) to reduce
heat in the starter.
6. Repeat process until linesare purged of air and engine
starts.
7. Listenfor unusualnoises,vibrationor other indications
of abnormal operation. Check for oit leaks, evidence of
overheating etc. while the unit runs.
Electrical Checks
With the AUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch set to OFF:
I. Turn ON the main distribution panel circuit breaker
that supplies utility power to the Automatic Transfer
Switch.
_ WARNING! The Automatic Transfer Switch is
now electrically "HOT." Contact with "HOT" parts
will result in extremely hazardous and possibly fatal
electrical shock. Proceed with caution.
2. Use an accurate AC voltmeter to check utility power
voltage across"UTILITY CONNECTION" lugs in the
Automatic Transfer Switch (see Interconnection
Diagram on page 12).Nominal line-to-line voltage
should be 240Volts.
3. Check utility power between one of the UTILITY
CONNECTION lugs and the neutral lug, then between
the other UTILITY CONNECTION lugs and the
neutral lug.Nominal line-to-neutral voltageshould be
120Volts.
4. When certain that utility voltageis as specified above,
turn OFF the main distribution panel circuit breaker
that supplies utility power to the Automatic Transfer
Switch.
5. Set the generator's main circuit breaker to the OFF
position. Initial tests will be conducted at "no-load"
condition.
6. Set the AUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch to MANUAL.
The engine should crank and start.
7. Let the engine warm up for about five minutes to allow
internaltemperatures to stabilize.Then, set the
generator's main circuit breaker to itsON (or closed)
position.
_IL WARNING! Proceed with caution. Generator
output voltageis now supplied to the Automatic
Transfer Switch. Contact with "HOT" Automatic
Transfer Switch parts wilt result in dangerous and
possibly fatal electrical shock.
8. Connect an accurate AC voltmeter and a frequency
meter to check generator output across
"GENERATOR CONNECTION" lugsin the Automatic
Transfer Switch (see InterconnectionDiagram on
page 12).Voltageshould be 239-250Volts, frequency
should be 62.0 - 62.5 Hz.
NOTE: If either parameter is outside these ranges,
perform the EngineAdjustments described on page 18.
9. Check generator output between one of the
GENERATOR CONNECTION lugsand the neutral
lug,then between the other GENERATOR
CONNECTION lug and the neutral lug.In both cases,
voltage reading should be between 121-126Volts.
IO. Set the generator's main circuit breaker to OFF. Let
the engine run at"no-load" for a few minutes to
stabilize internal engine/generator temperatures.
I I. Set theAUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch to OFF. Engine
should stop.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT proceed untilyou are certain
that generator AC voltage and frequency are correct and
within the stated limits.Toobtain the proper generator
frequency,see EngineAdjustments on page 18.
